BANDIT
SUITS UP TO LIGHT UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE WOMEN’S
BASKETBALL TEAM NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP CELEBRATION
Knoxville, TN- the
University of Tennessee Women’s Basketball Team
recently celebrated their 64-48 win over Stanford
University in the women's NCAA tournament championship
game. This is the second National Championship win
in as many years for the Lady Vols. They beat Rutgers
University 59-46 last year.
The hometown party
took place at Thompson-Boling Arena and served as
both a celebration of the win and a thank you to the
local fans for all their support. The event featured
cheerleaders, a pep band as well as speeches from
the coaches, players and other influential people
from Knoxville.
Lighting Designer,
Will Twork, said that the primary objective for this
event was to light the stage and the podium. He used
Martin MAC 600s to wash the stage. Twork also stagered
six Martin MAC 500s with custom glass gobos to project
the Lady Vols logo onto a 50’ filled white cyc.
Lighting was controlled by a Whole Hog II.
The Lady Vols’ impressive basketball history
includes eight NCAA titles, four players of the year,
the Naismith Player of the Century and the winningest
college basketball coach ever. This year senior, Candace
Parker won the Wooden Award for the second year in
a row and was recently selected by the Los Angeles
Sparks as the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. She will
graduate from the University of Tennessee this spring.
Coach Pat Summitt
also received special honors in 2008. She became the
first female recipient of the Legends of Coaching
Award, which was adopted by the John R. Wooden Award
Committee in 1999. The Award recognizes the lifetime
achievement of coaches who exemplify Coach Wooden's
high standards of coaching success and personal achievement.
