BANDIT
LIGHTS LOVE, PAIN AND THE WHOLE CRAZY WORLD FOR KEITH
URBAN
Bandit Lites is working
again with Country Music Singer/Songwriter, Keith
Urban. Supporting his most recent album, “Love,
Pain and the Whole Crazy World,” Urban’s
tour includes shows in Europe, Australia, Canada and
the United States. The two-hour concert includes songs
from his current album as well as hits from previous
albums.
Production Designer,
Marc Brickman chose to use 6 Lycian M2 under hung
truss spots, 52 Vari*Lite 3500 spots, 37 VL 3000 washes,
7 VL 3000 spots and 36 Martin Atomic Strobes with
Atomic Colors.
Additionally, Brickman
put great emphasis on smoke machine styles and effects
as well as placement to enhance his show looks. Specifically,
the Martin ZR33 smoke machines provided an added effect
by being hung up in the upstage truss.
The most substantial
element to the production design was a state-of-the-art
29’ tall by 56’ wide LED display, compliments
of Barco.
“The lighting
design for Keith’s current tour is highly video-based,”
explains lighting director, Nathan Alves. “The
challenge herein comes when you try to maintain the
level of energy normally associated with Keith’s
stage show while also keeping the levels at the light
at a level that the video department needs. It’s
always about balance.”
Alves says that the
darker he makes it, the more dramatic he can be, but
he has to keep in mind that the 56’ x 29' HD
video wall is an essential element to the total production
design. The key to pulling this off is good communication.
The video department communicates with him all night
long. In the moment if someone is brighter than Keith
is
or if he needs to
chip up the levels on Keith a bit, Alves has a guy
in his ear that can ask for that. That makes the whole
process much easier. It takes all of the guesswork
out of it.
When asked what is
unique about this tour, Alves commented, “Marc
Brickman calls the video element his biggest light.
We color chase it, turn it white to silhouette the
band, use custom content to really create an atmosphere
at the show. It’s a total package. The lighting
combined with the video makes this tour an experience
not to be missed.”
Bandit Vice President,
Michael Golden added, ““I have nothing
but the highest appreciation for the personnel that
comprise the Keith Urban tour. From top to bottom
they exude only the highest degree of professionalism
and I feel the show reflects the work put forth by
all.”
